Dan's VR Egg Hunt

Overview

The goal for this Tech Demo was to experiment with dynamic weather/lighting and collectible objects.  It was a success, and both of those elements worked out well after about 10 hours of work (June 2023).  The weather changes every minute, clouds change shape continuously, and the day/night cycle lasts 4 minutes.  So take a break and relax as you watch the clouds and wander through the wilderness.

There is a large map to walk around, and there are 18 eggs hidden throughout the landscape.

Controls

• Smooth locomotion with the left analog stick (and right analog stick to turn left/right)
• Teleport locomotion by pulling down on the right analog stick
• Reach behind your head and hold the grip to retrieve a backpack with storage slots (The eggs are quite large, but they shrink to fit in the slots)
• Climb trees by grabbing them with the grip and climbing naturally

Install Instructions

Note that this requires a VR-Capable PC running Windows. Tested with Quest 2 (via Air Link) and Valve Index.  Unarchive the zip file and launch dans-vr-egg-hunt.exe.  If the game does not launch inside your headset, be sure to check that the OpenXR runtime is set properly (either in the Oculus software or under Settings -> General or in Steam VR Settings under the Developer menu).
